To celebrate the company’s 60th anniversary, Sigma is offering eight prizes of $7,500 to four photographers and four filmmakers. Entry — which is free — is open to any resident of the U.S. who is enrolled in a photography or film course.
Sigma is inviting entrants to submit work in one of four categories that reflect Sigma’s values: authenticity, precision, inspiration, and honor. Work must have been created after September 1, 2021, and you can submit one entry in each category for as many as four categories. Winners will be announced after October 31. Sigma Corporation was founded by Kazuto Yamaki’s father, Michihiro Yamaki, in 1961 and who headed the company until his death in 2012 at the age of 78.
Sigma CEO Kazuto Yamaki recently gave a 20-minute interview in which he confirmed that the company was continuing to work on the development of a new Foveon sensor, and acknowledged the demand for Fujifilm lenses. Sigma might be under pressure from Tamron since the launch of the Tamron 18-300mm f/3.5-6.3 Di III-A VC VXD lens (check out this review) for X-series cameras, a lens that is thought to have received a large number of pre-orders.
