Dumb Things Leica Photographers Say

Making fun of owners of Leica cameras is easy, but that’s never a reason not to do it.

Street photographer Samuel Lintaro Hopf has put together this amusing video that pokes some gentle fun at owners of Leica cameras, reminding us that however beautifully made a camera might be, gushing about how amazing it is can make you sound a little ridiculous, especially when it’s taken out of context.

Leica owners often have to develop thick skin, probably helped by the fact that while they’re easy to mock, these cameras are also really, really nice, and many of us would be delighted to own one if we could somehow justify the expense. A rich history combined with engineering and hand-assembly done in Europe means price tags that make Leica more of a luxury brand, something that the company taps into with its frequent releases of limited-run models with quirky finishes such as the Drifter M Monochrom designed in collaboration with Lenny Kravitz. It doesn’t help that pretty much any sentence from this video from Leica could easily have been slotted into the pastiche posted above.

Was this shot with a Leica?

I’ll stick with my council estate alternative, the X-E2 and 23mm f2.
