I spent a long night waiting for the moon to set between the monoliths on the right side of the image. A tenuous night worried that I had been incorrect in assuming that the moon would set where I needed it to set. And night worried that Washington's weather would turn sour. I walked the coast around our camp site several times before I noticed the silhouette of the tree and the moon (half full). The rest of the image came easy but the decision to go eight minutes on the exposure came from the desire to reduce noise and increase sharpness .
