Morning light hunter

After months of winter in Canada we finally had a chance to see some greenery! A local video crew and I have wanted to collab on a few projects but nothing really panned out. We ended up actually aligning and set off into the woods armed to the teeth with lights, bows and cameras!

I love shooting portraits in the outdoors, Canada offers a massive variety and I truly enjoy the diversity. We wanted to shoot at early morning feel, but at 11AM the suns pretty much skylining! I gelled an Alien Bee 800 with the reflector subject right and shot it to illuminate the face and bow, then had a large octo (AB800) behind the subject to fill in the shadows a little and add a warm dynamic to the image. A few tweaks in photoshop and it was good to go!

You have main lighting from two directions, which is not generally how daylight works and so is not entirely successful, as a natural look image. Frankly the thought of fireing that arrow into a living animal is so disturbing I don't want to say more.
