This photo is an example in which you can see that the large of the bright spots in the eyes does not matter, as long as there is a bright spot in at least 1 eye.
The sun I have with this photo on the front, but because he has his face in the shade, the sunlight does not come directly into his eyes, but is the reflection of light that ends up on the tabletop.
