Leaps and bounds, but not today.

Native peoples gave this monkey the nickname of "flying monkey" due to their ability to leap up to 32 feet through the trees.

It was a sadness that I noticed when seeing the face of this little guy. I left that exhibit with a feeling of sadness as well, wishing I had the ability to communicate with the "not-so-flying-anymore" monkey. I have no doubt it would've been a lengthy and informative conversation.

Before leaving, I took this shot, which I thought made a poignant statement about freedom and the rights of animals.

The Santa Ana Zoo at Prentice Park in Santa Ana, California is a 20-acre zoo focusing on the animals and plants of Central and South America.

It hosts more than 270,000 people annually. The zoo opened in 1952 and is owned and operated by the City of Santa Ana.
