The Dead Sea is one of the world's saltiest bodies of water, with a salinity of 34.2% it is 9.6 times saltier than the ocean.
This high level of salinity makes for an extremely harsh environment in which no plants or animals are able to flourish, hence its name.
This picture shows the roots of a nearby Acacia tree, carried by a flash flood to the shores of the dead sea, where is god covered with salt over a short period of time.
