A Score to Settle

Another portrait of my good friend and local actor, Justin. I feel this one tells the story a little more; I'm imagining a scene where a crime boss has just received some distressing news, or is admonishing an insubordinate lackey. A continuous light was used as a key here, with the background being lit by the ambient light in the room.

This was shot on a Nikon D750, with a Sigma 50mm 1.4 ART.

Brilliant, Jack. Do you ever use a diffusion filter? I've been playing with a black pro-mist filter, and I also picked up a vintage lens recently. Was just curious because I feel like those types of things would play well into your style.

You're so kind, thank you very much! I've been dying to try a diffusion filter - my friend has a Cinebloom one. What strength did you get? I ordered an old Helios lens because it had this swirl effect, and the bokeh looked incredible, but it never arrived...

Oh no! I'm sorry to hear that. I picked up a Nikon 50mm pre-AI lens because it was inexpensive, and I wasn't sure I'd want to get into it. It's been fun!

I have a 1/4 black pro-mist. For me, that's a good combination of diffusion and sharpness.
