Alex is a former bass student who has become a good friend. He was part of a project called "Basses and Faces" in which I photographed double bass players. As a bassist myself, this project made perfect sense to me as a way to combine my two passions - music and photography.
My goal was to focus on the face rather than the bass, so I cropped close and made sure the instrument was represented, but not dominant. I often prefer to highlight the subject over the medium when photographing musicians, instead of using the instrument as prop in the photo or dominant part of the frame.
