Frank Ginn's picture

Pre-Dawn at the National Mall

Early morning for this image taken from the Lincoln Memorial.
I think of this as one of those "Hidden Pictures" where you need to find all the "Special" things are hidden in plain sight. There are a lot of what I'd call "out of the norm's" going on and fun things to find!
The coloring was fast changing in the sky and this is one of the first images shot that morning as within a couple of minutes all the clouds were gone!

Hi. Did you not want to pull up the shadows?

Hi PEDRO,
Thanks for the interest in this image!

I'm going to assume your asking if I wanted to lift the shadows "more"...the RAW file foreground is practically black except for the reflecting pool water. I've lifted them significantly to achieve this look. In hindsight, I should have "bracketed" the image, although at the time of this image I had not learned how to do that,,,,It's a process, and for me a slow one!
So the short answer, I am pleased with this image, but I will re-look at lifting them more.

Sure. It is a good image and worth trying to lift shadows. Often difficult
Hi Frank. Hope you wont think I am being cheeky! I played a little and saw more detail. But it also showed a lot of blue in the foreground. To remove this blue without affecting the blue in the sky will require some masking etc. Have a good day.

I had to laugh.....after looking up what "cheeky" means...
Not at all, I appreciate the comments and advice, I have by no means achieved self-perceived perfection and am willing to explore ideas and suggestions that will help me grow as a photographer and image editor to be able to present a better product. I will gladly take your advice anytime.
I do believe that images can be presented in different variations and all these variants can be great with a different mood, style, color or appeal and that individuals will be more drawn to a particular one over the others, hence "Different Strokes for Different Folks"!

Hi Frank. Looking at images on my telephone and your shadows look better here. Curious! Have a good day

Thanks....I had an issue with my monitor settings awhile back, and made what turned out to be embarrassing for me comment on a contest photo...my monitor brightness or gamma were set where I was seeing most dark images too dark! I think i discovered it the same way, - using a phone to view the same images!
No worries though - Have a good one!
