Amanita Muscaria
I've never seen clumps of Amanita like this any other time but this one late-summer day up Shrine Pass near Vail. So many in places they were clumped one into another under the Spruce. And the color…I’ve done my best to be true to tone and saturation. They were that red.
Dennis, very impressive image both as far as subject (yes I agree very unique cluster) and your composition through post-processing. Colors look true to me.
I read or heard the advise as far as saturation is concerned in the digital darkroom oh or is that the digital lightroom look at that spell check wants that capitalized well adobe has sure done fine job at that haven't they ... ahh argh ahh ... drumroll / rimshot! Sorry about that, anyway it was recommended not to exceed 17% of saturation which I have practice since, globally and or individual colors sliders. These days I actually find myself using less saturation and more vibrance which I also try to restrict to the 17% or last. No matter the tool i.e. Color calibrate tool (ACR), HSL tool, etc.
Paul, Thank you for your kind comments and your insights about saturation. I've never heard about not exceeding 17% saturation. To me, it's a matter of taste and a combination of a little saturation with much more vibrance, a balance. Likely somewhat more saturated than in real life. Just a long as things don't start looking fake.
I totally agree Dennis, yes personal taste has a lot to do with it. But when you look at an image that has been over processed it is usually as a result of the saturation going over board, not to vilify the saturation tool there are many tool that can effect the images saturation. That's why it as a tool I apply toward the end of my workflow, and once again find myself using vibrance/saturation tool and not uncommon to do slight - saturation and concentrate more on the vibrance.
