The common spoonbill is a wading bird that is unmistakable due to its large size, white colour and its habit of wading through the shallow bottoms of wetlands while tracking the mud with its flattened beak. Spain is home to some of the largest colonies in Western Europe, which take refuge in coastal wetlands in western Andalusia.
