While you generally want to be able to work organically with your subject in the moment to avoid overly stilted images, it often helps to have at least a couple poses you know well and are comfortable with in your back pocket. This way, if you are having trouble coming up with ideas in the moment, you still have poses you can fall back on to ensure you come home with keeper images.
