Your Instructor

Mark Wallace is an incredible photographer and an even better educator, with a long resume under his belt. He has been shooting street photography, portraiture, and travel photography for over 30 years. He created Adorama TV, has contributed regularly to Creative Live, and has created hundreds of educational videos on YouTube. Mark has been an avid user DxO FilmPack for most of his career and is the perfect person to show you, at whatever level you are, how to become an expert in the software.

DxO FilmPack

DxO FilmPack is software that incorporates 200 years of photographic history into a broad range of accurate film recreations that you can apply to any image. These historical renditions have been meticulously analyzed in DxO’s inhouse laboratory to accurately represent the tones, colors, and grain of some of the most iconic photos in the world. If you apply a film selection from FilmPack to one of your images, it will produce identical results to what you would have gotten had you originally shot that image with that film. Not only does FilmPack allow you to easily select from a huge range of film recreations, it is also a great place to find inspiration and envision images you would have never set out to create before.

What's Covered in the Tutorial

Our goal in creating this tutorial was to teach all the tools this software has to offer and show photographers how to use FilmPack for creative inspiration. The lessons are taught from a workflow perspective, meaning we start at the beginning of a standard editing process and show you each step to a completed image. Mark will show you how to use FilmPack as a standalone program and also as a plugin in other common pieces of software. He starts with a comprehensive overview of the interface and moves on to all the editing options you will have with FilmPack.

Applying Presets

Filmpack is filled with dozens of film options which are delivered to the user in the form of presets. With a single mouse click, you can recreate your choice with any of your images. If the look isn't a perfect fit, Mark shows you how add to the edits and even save a new preset that more accurately reflects your style on a consistent basis. You will also learn how to create custom presets from scratch with Mark as he edits an image from start to finish.

FilmPack as a Plugin

One of FilmPack's strengths is the option you have to use it as a plugin and make non-destructive edits to your photos. Throughout this tutorial, Mark shows you how to use Filmpack within PhotoLab, Adobe Lightroom, and Adobe Photoshop. He'll show you how to quickly access your favorite film presets without interrupting your pre-existing workflows in each respective program.

The Time Machine

FilmPack not only contains dozens of film recreations from the past, it also features the Time Machine, a series of historical images that are supplemented with details about who took the photo and how it was captured. Mark finds a great deal of inspiration from browsing through the library of photos will teach you how to apply the looks of each piece of history to your latest captures.

Color Versus Black and White Edits

FilmPack has tools to specifically deal with color photos as well as black and white images, and Mark will go through both in this tutorial. You will first work alongside him to pull out the best details of a color image and create a new preset. Then, Mark will show you how to utilize the black and white panels in FilmPack to make your images stand out.

Follow Along with Mark

As part of the tutorial, we are including every file that Mark works on. Every time Mark opens an image on camera, you'll be able to access the same file and match his edits click for click. In addition, Mark has included a variety of presets that he uses in the tutorial.

Our goal with this tutorial was not only to teach you how to use DxO FilmPack, but also to teach you how to become a better photographer and editor. If you're not completely satisfied with your purchase, we offer a full money-back guarantee.

I'm not seeing the advertised savings applied in the shopping cart. Banner says save 30% when you buy one, save 40% when you buy two. Is this going to get fixed?

Mark Wallace is an excellent instructor and this tutorial is comprehensive - well worth the investment given the time it will save you and the extra skills it will enable. I highly recommend it - 10/10.
