When you take a picture, the image that's produced by your camera is flawed. No matter how good or expensive your setup is, the physical elements of the lens and camera do not translate light onto your sensor perfectly, and your sensor does not always interpret data in a way that accurately matches the scene in front of you. No matter how much money you spend, you will always have some amount of optical issues, chromatic aberration, noise, and demosaicing. However, you don't have to accept imperfect raw files. In fact, you can address most of those issues before you ever start editing your files with DxO's PureRAW 4.

Why Have Another Piece of Software?

The truth is that most raw processing software already has some level of optical correction built in. Whether you use Adobe Lightroom, Photoshop, Capture One, the NIK Collection, or something else entirely, you can usually fix optical issues to some degree. Unfortunately, not all software is created equally, and many of the most commonly used editing tools fall short when it comes to their fixes. DxO has lab tested thousands of lens and camera combinations and has created PureRAW 4 to be the best software on the market to correct optical issues. Throughout this tutorial, Mark Wallace will teach you how to use this software to its fullest potential. The best part is you won't have to change your normal editing process, as PureRAW 4 fits seamlessly alongside the workflow of any software you're already using.

What's Covered in the Tutorial

Our main goal with this tutorial is not only to teach you how to use PureRAW 4 to its fullest potential, we also want you to understand how it can be used with other software. Mark begins the tutorial by showing you how to edit using PureRAW 4 as a standalone program. He walks through the basics of the interface and discusses all the tools available to you. He then will show you the power of processing with preview using DeepPRIME XD and Smart Lighting. Most of the magic in PureRAW 4 happens with only a few clicks and processing time. Mark will show you how to process images in queues so you're not wasting time sitting in front of a computer.

It's always a good idea to edit your raw files at their best possible starting point. Mark will show you how to quickly and easily process out optical issues using PureRAW 4 before taking them into other editing programs. He discusses the best practices of taking your images into Adobe Photoshop, Lightroom Classic, Lightroom CC, Analog Effects, and Capture One.

Revive Old Images

One of Mark's favorite aspects of PureRAW 4 is its ability to breathe new life into old files. Many of us have taken images with poor camera technology or in poor lighting. Those pictures are filled with so much noise and other optical issues that it makes them unusable. With the technology behind DeepPRIME XD, you can now remove most of those issues and bring those older images back up to an acceptable standard.

Follow Along with Mark

As part of the tutorial, we are including a variety of files that Mark works on. Every time Mark edits an image with PureRAW 4, you'll be able to access the same file and match his edits click for click. Mark will also use several different pieces of software throughout the tutorial to show how PureRAW 4 is a great companion tool to any workflow. Even if you don't use each piece of software, we encourage you to watch every section as you may learn some new processing techniques.
