Fujifilm shooters are lucky to have a lot of choices in prime lenses, with many focal lengths having both f/1.4 and f/2 options. And as such, you might wonder if the f/1.4 versions are worth the premium price or if you would be better suited sticking with the more affordable f/2 versions. This excellent video comparison takes a look at three f/1.4 lenses and their f/2 counterparts to help you decide.
Coming to you from DP Review TV, this great video comparison discusses the differences between the XF 18mm f/1.4, XF 23mm f/1.4, and the XF 35mm f/1.4 to the XF 18mm f/2, XF 23mm f/2, XF 35mm f/2 lenses. No doubt, the light-gathering abilities, subject-isolating powers, and often better image quality of the f/1.4 versions can be alluring, but at twice the price, it is well worth thinking carefully about if you really need all that. For example, with the high-ISO capabilities of modern bodies, ultra-wide apertures are not as necessary as they used to be, and you can still get quite narrow depth of field at f/2. This means you could potentially get two f/2 lenses for the price of one f/1.4 option. Check out the video above for the full rundown.
