A Review of the Nikon 17-28mm f/2.8 Di III RXD Lens

Ultra-wide angle zoom lenses with f/2.8 apertures are popular for everything from weddings and events to landscapes and astrophotography. Nonetheless, such lenses are often rather expensive, frequently costing north of $2,000. And so, at $996, the Nikon 17-28mm f/2.8 Di III RXD is a breath of fresh air. Can it keep up with more expensive competitors? This excellent video review takes a look at the sort of performance and image quality you can expect.

Coming to you from Christopher Frost, this great video review takes a look at the Nikon 17-28mm f/2.8 Di III RXD lens. Compared to most ultra-wide angle f/2.8 zoom lenses, the Nikon is fairly affordable, though it still comes with a nice range of features, including:

  • Internal zooming design for gimbal work
  • Customizable control ring
  • Electromagnetic aperture mechanism for greater exposure stability
  • Dust- and moisture-resistant construction
  • Antifouling coating on front element
  • Stepping motor for fast and quiet autofocus suitable for both photos and video
  • Minimum focusing distance of 7.5"
  • Reduced focus breathing
  • Rounded 9-blade diaphragm for smoother bokeh
  • Two extra-low dispersion elements and one Super ED element for reduced chromatic aberrations and color fringing
  • Three aspherical elements for reduced spherical aberrations and distortion and increased sharpness

Check out the video above for Frost's full thoughts on the lens.
