Which of These Supertelephoto Zoom Lenses Is Right for You?

A decade ago, the idea of a reasonably affordable supertelephoto zoom lens that also produced professional-level images was almost unheard of. However, that particular market niche has exploded and recent years, and photographers now have a huge range of options to choose from. Which lens is right for you? This fantastic video review takes a look at many different options to help you pick.

Coming to you from Jan Wegener, this awesome video review takes a look at a wide array of different supertelephoto zoom lens options, including:

No doubt, there is a huge range of options right now, and frankly, they are pretty much all good performers. It is great to see good performance and image quality no longer limited to stratospherically priced supertelephoto primes, making genres like sports and wildlife photography far more accessible. Check out the video above for the full rundown from Wegener.

Well, not to be Captain Obvious (other than the Sigma and Tamron), the best choice is going to be with the ecosystem you're already in. I mean, if I'm shooting Sony, the Canon lens isn't going to be my best option. IJS

Reginald is correct; one won't mount a Sony on a Canon.

Plus Mr. Wegener ignores two very good super telephoto zoom lenses: the superb OM systems 150-400mm f/4.5 with integrated 1.25x TC, and the merely very good OM systems 100-400mm f/5-6.3. But then, you need to be in the Olympus eco-system, like I am, to appreciate the quality of these lenses. They won't fit on a Nikon, but they will allow you to take outstanding images on an Olympus.

Jan can be off at times, though this was a very practical and well thought out review of common options for the major three systems. There is some flexibility with interchangeability of lenses across some systems and it would have been interesting to test that as well.

.

At this time the XXmm to 600mm that is right for me is one that Jan did not even mention; the Sigma 60-600mm f6.3.

No mention of the Nikon Z 400mm F4.5 or Fuji XF 200mm F2????

Those aren't zoom lenses.

Jake, as Eddie already said, they are not zoom lenses. Why do you think that two prime lenses should have been mentioned in an article that is specifically about zooms?

Shout out for brain farts anyone???
