80,000 Photos Creates a Cinematic Stop Motion Masterpiece

The short film "Pictures" made by  is a prime example of how patience is a main ingredient in creating captivating cinema from still photos. Gioacchino spent over three years traveling multiple continents to capture perfect moments, and the images that led up to that perfect moment using a DLSR. I absolutely loved the tempo he created in this film with the acceleration up to the actual moment he froze in time. It is a wonderful glimpse into someone else's point of view. Check out the below stop motion videos that I've come across over the past few years that I thought were done very well.

This film was shot in Paris, Barcelona, Hossegor, Venezia, Toulouse, Martinique, New York City, Montpellier, and a few others over the course of 3 years and 80,000 photos. Obviously he didn't use all 80,000, which goes to show that being a good curator of your own work is important when it comes time to show your images. Gioacchino describes this work as "A game with the time, acceleration, break and restart." In the making of this film he used the 5D mark III and 7D with the Tokina 11-16mm, Canon 35mm L, Zeiss 50mm 1.4, Canon 50mm 1.4, Canon 100mm 2.8, Samyang 85mm 1.4, Lens baby, Canon 15-85mm. His mucis selection was from Claude Debussy - Clair de lune.

Here are a few more stop motions flicks I've thought were done well over the last few years.

This film ("Pictures") also proves how important good sound editing is to film. Subtle and superb.

At frist I watched the video with out the sound on and I tottally expected it to be more like creepy music. The soundtrack really sets the mood.

Beautiful creation. Thank you.

All of that movies was brilliant :)). I had to download them all :P
