How to Add Video to Your Wedding Photography Business and Why You Should Do It

If you’re a wedding photographer looking to make your business more attractive to clients while also earning yourself more money, today’s cameras make video an obvious addition. Here’s how to start mixing it into your work.

Experienced wedding photographer John Branch IV has put together this short video which shows that if you’re solely shooting stills, you might be missing out on how much you could appeal to clients, not to mention the chance to charge more money. Adding video to your services doesn’t mean that you suddenly have to commit to filming the entire day; instead, you should be looking to incorporate it as an optional extra to your package during those moments when you’re spending time alone with the couple.

For those on tight budgets: if you’re a Lightroom and Photoshop user, you might be daunted by the fact that adding Adobe Premiere to your subscription adds a huge cost to your monthly payments. For Mac users, one alternative is Final Cut Pro but at $300, it’s still a chunk of cash that you might not have to hand. Fortunately, Davinci Resolve is more than powerful enough to cut together a wedding or engagement video and it’s completely free. There is a paid version but this incorporates some features that are far beyond what you’ll need.

Have you transitioned from pure stills to hybrid shooting for weddings and engagements? What other tips would you add? Let us know in the comments below.

If you're on a Mac then you're shooting yourself in BOTH FEET if you don't go with Final Cut in terms of speed and stability.
