360-Degree Webcam Atop the Space Needle Captures Three-Year Panorama Time-Lapse of Seattle

City life is always fast-paced, and plenty can change in three years. Seattle is no different, as the footage in this four-minute video proves. Check out just how drastically the city has changed.

Seattle resident Ricardo Martin Brualla became intrigued by the HD 360-degree webcam that had been installed within the Space Needle building, and helpfully decided to select short clips from each month the camera was installed, compiling them all into a time-lapse video that helps to really illustrate the drastic difference the city has undergone over the past three years. The project took several months.

Writing in a post for Medium, he details how more than 2,000 panoramic images were collected; two per day, from 10:30 a.m. and 2:30 p.m., starting from January 2015, when the camera was first installed. To rectify the camera’s movements over time, Brualla stabilized the images.

The video is divided into several segments, illustrating the development of South Lake Union, the Denny Triangle, downtown, and a view of Capitol Hill in the distance. The video documents the erection of Amazon’s Day One building.

Brualla has created a second video for the project, talking about how the time-lapse was made, and has written a blog post discussing his favorite parts.

The amount of development is staggering. While it's cool to look at, it's not really a good sign.

love Seattle and cool to watch it grow
