Five Tips to Create Better Videos With Your Drone

While drones are easy to get off the ground, it’s another story to shoot cinema quality looking footage. In this video, Matti Haapoja highlights a couple of maneuvers you must master to create the best aerial videos possible.

Drones are cheaper and easier to use by the day. However, just like the new cameras make a photographer’s job more comfortable, it doesn’t take away from the talent of the person using it. If you don’t know how to fly the drone to make your footage look good, you could have just as well spent the same money on something else.

Haapoja insists on training before shooting aerial footage. In the video above, he explains a couple of ways you can practice your drone flying skills and thus get better footage. While new drones offer great automated modes, being able to control it fully in manual remains a better option in many situations. Some drills or tips he gives will take more time to master than others. For example, being able to control the gimbal and the drone movement while getting a smooth and steady shot usually doesn’t happen in a day. So be sure to be patient and keep on practicing.

Most importantly is not to crash it or get arrested

Wish you would summarize the 5 points from the video here. 10 mins for 5 points?

On a side note I would love to know what it is about this “dopesquad” (that arrogant self appointed name) that makes you think they can actually offer anything valuable to your audience.

You have some brilliant photography related articles shared and you have some video content that undermines all that.

Wow, so 10 mins to tell a drone audience who if buying a drone probably knows anyway (or common sense would dictate) and that is shareable content on fstoppers?

Wow, I wish the op would reconcile actual takeaway with how it looks on their brand, because this is simply filler with nice shots (paid for by companies who want his influence)

I watch these guys and wonder how the hell they have an audience given their information (if you can call it that) is unbelievably shallow. They are full timers? I’ve seen hobbiest produce better, more clear videos and they buy their drones, don’t get free ones from DJI.

Wow! very true, your written comment is actually more helpful

I thought so, but it seems I've angered the F-Stopping Gods here, and the blocked my account lol. Whatever. Can't seem to take it as it is.

Sorry but this a garbage video. Basically just click bate. Hasn't this video been done like a 1000 times. Any as others have pointed out why is this 10 minutes long? Purely just for view time is the answer.

Sat through half of this excruciating video. So what I need to do to get better drone shots is to practice and learn the settings. Awesome. My gramma could give tips like this - be careful.

I'd love to have better indications of which posts are video, especially in the RSS feeds, and which have matching summaries. I'm tired of watching a video for something that should be 2 paragraphs.

Especially when mobile and data is an issue.
