A few years back, Lume Cube hit the market with a very small, bright LED light that is close to the size of a GoPro Hero 5 Session. These little lights have built a name for themselves over time and are now available for the Mavic 2.
The Lume Cube puts out 1500 lumens of light with the support some cool new features like having the ability to provide continuous light or be used a s a strobe for FAA night flight regulations. The light can be controlled via Bluetooth up to 100ft away and within the app, users have the ability to control multiple cubes, change the color temperature and adjust the brightness. At full brightness, the Lume Cube's battery can last over two hours, while at full power it will last 30-45min. The design allows the support of other accessories while the durability is tough enough to withstand falls all while being resistant to water.
What Can You Do With Lume Cube?
Well Lume Cube can be used on its own or it can be attached to a drone. When it comes to flying the Lume Cube now offers anti-collision lights or light to see your subject when flying in darker situations. This opens new options for creatives to get aerial shots at night or use the light on the drone as a freely moving light source. In the bigger picture, this light can also be used to help with search and rescue missions, security, surveillance and inspections.
Off the drone, this light can be placed in the water, on a camera, inside a car or really wherever you want. Lume Cube has and endless amount of uses as a small light solution. Of course this light isn't going to replace professional strobes or bigger continuous lights but for work on the go or creative ideas that need a small light placed in a specific place to make the shot work, Lume Cube comes in handy.
My Thoughts
Though I have not yet used a Lume Cube, I am interested to see how flight performance is affected when flying two of these lights on the drone. Having more light is a plus for the sake of the FAA's safety regulations and the camera's settings, but the weight may add another variable to safety. Even with the extra bit of weight, the mount looks to be in a good, balanced spot and I have a very strong feeling the Mavic 2 would handle it just fine. These lights would be great for certain projects and also to have as little backup lights considering they don't take up much space and can be charged very easily.
Lume Cube mount for Mavic 2 can be pre-ordered today for $189.99. For more info, check out their website.
Nothing like a ton of powerful lighting fires directly on axis to your camera....while blowing wind right in your subject’s face
Besides light painting maybe, what would you light with a drone?
Makes your drone look like something straight out of a terminator movie!
