Pro Photo Shoot, A New App To Help Photographers Discover Talent

Pro Photo Shoot, A New App To Help Photographers Discover Talent

Have you ever had trouble finding a model, make up artist, or stylist to work with? Maybe the traditional methods of networking aren't working for you, or you are new to the area. Pro Photo Shoot is a new IOS app designed to help photographers find other industry professionals to collaborate with.

Pro Photo Shoot is the first comprehensive talent discovery and booking tool available natively on any mobile platform. The app aims to help bring the professional photography community together through an industry-specific social media network. Pro Photo Shoot displays available models, photographers, makeup artists, and stylists in major cities around the world. Users have the ability to view specific details of each profile, and connect via in-app messaging and a “friend” system. The app also supports a casting call search engine that notifies participants of where they are in the evaluation process.

While the app was already released in Canada, it just released in the U.S. on December 5th. I recently downloaded it to get a further look. While there aren't many users yet, the app does seem to be user friendly and easy to navigate. Compared to sites like Model Mayhem, whose mobile version is less than desirable to use, I think the app has a lot of potential. Hopefully in the coming months, Pro Photo Shoot will gain more users. If your interested in checking out the app yourself, head over to their website and give it a look and download it for free. Feel free to let us know what you think about it in the comments section below.

App is only available in apple US store this is not good!!

Well Canada too

Will be kickass if it pulls in portfolios from Behance using it's API. Imagine. Fly to a city, open the app, get a location-specific showcase of who's doing what in town. Epic.

My worry is that, without human curation and/or approval process, this will quickly become the next Model Mayhem...just in app form. Don't get me wrong...Model Mayhem has its place. And I'm sure a lot of photographers/models, etc., are grateful to the site for certain things in the past. But there is, honestly, a huge deficit of talent -- in the place of which are way too many people "just starting" or without much experience, etc... We all have to start somewhere, but if this app really does work so well, it would be a shame for them to not find a way to distinguish excellent, pro talent from the rest with humans at the helm to make that decision.

Do people still use Model Mayhem?? I've been a members since 2007 but haven't organized a shoot with anyone from their since 2012. Near 4 years!

Im in the same boat. Still have an account but haven't used it in the longest time.

I still try to use model mayhem but for the model types I'm looking for, don't exist in my area honestly. But when I travel to highly populated areas it seems to have a nice amount of talent based on my needs. Sadly I cannot do much traveling. Where is the other option? Other sites are not popular enough to compete against model mayhem, and the next option is out of price range of most photographer's budget for a personal project (agencies). Another is simply walking around and try not to be a creeper and discover talent, takes more energy and time, but less expensive than an agency I think.

Only models around me are glamour/playboy models... playboy don't pay the bills, nor is the direction I want to head in. (plus most of them don't work for TF no matter what)

Ya needs to be Android Made. Bad move on their part.

Just curious how do photographers find model talent nowadays?
Instagram? Directly contacting the modeling agency?

I always go through agencies as I tend to find they have the best talent. For me, previous modelling experience isn't necessary as I like working with newbies too, so I always keep an eye out on Instagram as well. I think a lot of people are scouted there these days..

I agree with you Jack. I have too many flakes that occurred from Modelmayhem. So, after this winter is season is done I will be working mainly with modeling agencies henceforth.

The models there tend to be a lot more reliable! They have an agent to answer to if they flake out

They do not have my market built in to the app. Oh well made an account anyway.

"available natively on any mobile platform" - Only on Apple devices. Andriod users always get left out.

Android coming Spring 2016

Hi folks,

As Leroy Bruster just mentioned, an Android version is slated for Spring 2016. We certainly do not want to dismiss anyone based on their platform of choice, so we're putting a lot of effort into ensuring that the Android version will perform just as well as the original.

Additionally, rest assured that there are actual humans validating profiles regularly. Users who are underaged, spammers, or are there for illegitimate reasons will eventually be removed from the database. There is also a reporting system within the app to assist with such cleanup tasks.

Finally, there are quite a few things on the horizon that will hopefully address many of your concerns - primarily those surrounding the eventual devolution into a MM clone. One of which is a forthcoming ranking system and a process for professional, agency-signed models to become verified as such. That way, when you want to work with a Pro, you'll be able to do so without needing to sort through the newcomers.

The support from members of the Photography community has been outstanding so far, and I thank you for both your accolades and criticisms. I look forward to continually evolving this tool to meet the high standards that the creative community is accustomed to.
