4 Things Every Budding Professional Photographer Needs to Learn

The road to becoming a successful professional photographer has many aspects to it, ranging from the photo work itself through business practice and more. If you would like to one day make money from your images, check out this helpful video tutorial that features an experienced pro discussing four things you need to learn on the photography side of things.

Coming to you from John Gress, this great video tutorial discusses four things aspiring professional photographers need to learn. Perhaps the one I see photographers most frequently run afoul of, even once they are quite proficient, is not maintaining a consistent portfolio. This does not mean you can't experiment and develop different styles and the like, but remember that clients expect a certain aesthetic from you, and if you deviate from that, they will likely be unsatisfied. Worse is when photographers do not remove mediocre images from their portfolios as they grow. This is common among newer professionals who often don't have large portfolios yet but want to give the impression of having done more work. It's much better to show 10 solid images than 50 that are a mix of good and middling, as it only takes one bad shot to derail a potential client's confidence in your abilities. Check out the video above for the full rundown from Gress.
