How to Make Filmmaking Your Career

Filmmaking is a desirable career and has been for many years. Now, however, there is more demand and are more ways into it than ever before. Here is some advice from somebody who has walked that path.

20 years ago, being a filmmaker was both rare and tremendously difficult to turn into a career, for so many reasons; the equipment was expensive and cumbersome, the demand was significantly lower, the barrier of entry was significantly higher, and learning the trade was more difficult too. Getting to the point where you could earn good money from filmmaking in 2003 and before was an exceptionally rough path.

Now, there is an insatiable hunger for video, with platforms such as YouTube both creating and fulfilling never-before-seen levels of demand. While this demand is strong, there is also access to educational material (this video included), affordable equipment (including your phone), and the profession is easily accessible at the lowest rung. This all leads to a competitive field, but that isn't to say you can't make it work. Listen as Eric Floberg goes through the basics of filmmaking and how to cultivate a business in that area.
