Most photographers have had an Instagram account for several years now, and as such, they have each accumulated likely hundreds of even thousands of posts. Most people will simply leave their old posts up, but for professional creatives, there is an argument to be made for removing older entries. So, should you remove those old posts? Should you hide like counts on your images? This interesting video podcast discusses these questions.
Coming to you from PJ Pantelis, this excellent video podcast discusses some interesting topics regarding professional use of social media, specifically if you should delete old posts and if you should hide likes counts. While it is nice to have a robust portfolio, especially if those older posts have a lot of likes to show off the support of your work, I generally think one should err on the side of showing less photos of a higher quality than a lot of mixed-quality images. It only takes one bad photo to derail a client's thoughts on your work. If your skills have improved significantly since you first started posting or your creative style has evolved quite a bit, it might be worth considering pruning your account. Remember with Instagram that you can archive posts instead of deleting them now, so if you change your mind, you can always reinstate them.
