How To Create a Doll Effect in Photoshop

In this video tutorial, watch as Abbey Esparza shows you how to create a doll eye effect in Photoshop and why you need to use them. This is a great tutorial for anyone who works within the fantasy genre.

In the video, Esparza starts by telling us that she is not going to just show us the easy way, which is cutting out the eyes and making them larger. However, we do need to cut out the eyes with the Lasso Tool and put them onto their own layers. Then, in a great little technique, we make the rest of the image smaller and then move the eyes to where we want them.

As Esparza continues, we see how she also uses the original eyes as a base point for the new larger eyes. It is then a case of using layer masks and brushes to blend everything in seamlessly. The more intense of an effect you want, the more you will have to mask away from the edges. Further on in the tutorial, Esparza also applies a similar technique to other features to get that doll look. This is one technique I have seen many times, but Esparza pulls it off with class.

This tutorial is great for beginner and intermediate Photoshop artists who want to start trying out fantasy styles in their Photoshop photo manipulation and portraits. These techniques are really easy to do, and anyone should be able to follow along.
