One of the most important aspects of our work as photographers is the storage of our photos and videos. Not only do our businesses regularly depend on our images and videos remaining safe until final delivery, many of us keep years of personal memories backed up for safe keeping. A few weeks ago, our own Alex Cooke wrote a review on one of the most dependable ways to back up what's important to you, the new My Cloud Mirror 2. As a follow up to his article, Fstoppers and WD would like make sure you have the option to keep your back ups secure by giving away three My Cloud Mirror 2 units. Check out the details below.

When it comes to backing up files, all of us place importance on different things. I personally have hundreds of thousands of wedding images I've taken for clients over the years stored on multiple hard drives. The story of these images show my progress as a photographer, and also guarantee that in a dire situation, my clients can retain access to their pictures. Outside of my business, I place the most value on the many travel pictures I've taken in over a dozen countries with my wife. These are some of my most treasured moments and memories in my life. I love to look back on them from time to time to remember the many rich life experiences we've shared together.

What are the most important items you store digitally? Fstoppers and WD would like to hear from you and give you the chance to safely store the precious aspects of your lives with a new 4TB My Cloud Mirror (Gen 2)

To be eligible to receive one of the three giveaway units, simply leave a comment below this article describing the most important items you back up. Fstoppers will randomly select three winners from the comments to receive a 4TB My Cloud Mirror (Gen 2). The most precious things I save are the photos, videos, and web projects I worked on while I was growing up. To me it's a history of how far I've come as a photographer and designer. I've almost lost this data before so I very carefully back up everything and hope to do so for many years!

Photos of My travels. Memories I can never get back

I love to save my projects and footages of 3D modeling, product design and photos of products for reference or for advertise, I also save my resources like plugins and tutorials .

I back up pictures of my hard drives for lasting memories after they fail.

Pictures of my family, from the past as well as new ones. Photographic books.

my memories which are too big for my brain ;)

Old copies of family photos, my wedding work, and video AND timemachine!

The most important times in my life and the reason for picking up a camera My two LOVELY KIDS!

The most important would be photos of my family, friends and followed by photos of my travels.

Weddings, engagements, families, veterans. Need I say more?

RAW files and my design work... Everything else can be replaced one way or another but you hope it will never come to that!

I back up weddings and other shoots for clients for up to two years for each client. currently I use a Seagate of 1TB

Some of the most important photos I back up are personal shots of friends and family over the years. Clients come and go, and once you send them your files that's just another backup method because they will save them to their hard drive. But family isn't going anywhere. If they do, you'll want to preserve their memory. My most backed up images are those of my family and girlfriend. Can't lose those. I would rather lose a wedding than all my personal shots.

That will be mostly my photos, specially paid projects =)

I have family pictures of my grandma and her 95 children, grandchildren, and great grandchildren, and a few great great grandchildren...hoping to have much to show at the next family reunion before she's no longer with us. I'm like the unofficial family historian.

As a professional photographer, I must archive all client photos. I am also a wildlife photographer and have photos backed up in multiple places as man of these images are not replaceable.

The client photos and videos are important, but not as important once I've delivered. To me, as other say, the most important files I back up are photos and videos of my children or lost loved ones.

I end up with many TB of action sports photos. Many photos are not "keepers", but I also don't like to delete anything because you never know what you may need down the road. Keeping all my files backed up securely is extremely important.

.

The most important things for me to back up are the photos and memories of those who one day will no longer be with me.

Definitely family photos. Especially as my grandparents are getting older, I know that every opportunity to spend time with them is precious. We take pictures every time we are together, and I would hate to lose a single one!

Having lost some of my most important photos/files over the years due to poor backup.. would be great if i could save the rest...

I collect family photos and videos from my parents/brothers and keep them backed up for the whole family. That way we all know where the import files to save in a fire are kept.....I keep all of my landscape and portrait files backed up on a separate HD, which quickly turns into several HDs after creating new content.

The most important photos I need to back up are selfies of me doing duck faces with varying angles. Also photos of my fat dogs.

I'm a photographer, so I need a secure way to store and backup my work.. but specially the photos of my 4 years old daughter. I can't live without taking photos to her.. :D

By far, family photos.

Like everybody else photos :) I have really old family photos scanned from Positive film and i keep 2 backups of them on my WD drives. I still have printed ones in boxes waiting to be scanned :) One of these days :)

My most important backups are photographs from times with my family, with all the people that I can never see otherwise for one reason or another. Also from the good times I had with friends throughout my youth.
More recently, I find my photos from my adventures around Central America to be very import, especially after I lost a couple of months worth of RAW files!

Mr Murphy is always out to get you when you least expect it. Mirror is a great idea. One is none and two is one.

All of my photos are stored on backup Raid Drives. Never have too few drives!

gimme plz

The most important thing for to keep safe and securely backed up are all the images of my son as he has grown. Next would be all the images that have been captured that tell the story of how I have become who I am. Engagement photos, wedding photos, travel photos and even day to day photos that tell the story of me and my family.

60 years of my life's memories are stored on various floppy disks, hard drives and usb drives scattered around my office.

I backup absolutely everything I shoot. A few years ago my grandfather died, and we had taken family photos a year before. So we had a good photo to use for the obit and funeral. Then last year my wife's grandfather passed and I had a photo of him that everyone loved but I took it before I was diligent about backing photos up, so I only had a thumbnail. You never know when someone will want a photo you have taken, and I want to always have it available. It could make me money if they want to license a photo but it could also bring comfort to someone who's lost a loved one. You just never know, so it's worth the time, effort, and money to back everything up.

Client photos are important, but family photos have to be the most important. 3 kids deep now, there are a lot of memories there.

Family photo's, customers photo's all of the photos!!!

Im a filmmaker and photographer, so backing up all my footage and photos is a must!

I back up all the footage from every film I am on plus numerous family memories.

Over 10 years of raw images including children, weddings and many other significant events.

The most recent and most important thing I've backed up are the photos from my honeymoon 2 weeks ago. My wife and I went to Italy for 10 days and I created images I will probably never get to recreate and they are very important to me

Moments of Life! It is always fun going through the archives re enjoying those moments with loved ones, friends, or the various adventures and hikes traveled.

Photos, lots and lots of photos.

Photos of my family and my deceased best friend.

When I first changed from film to digital, I didn't realize how easily my images could be lost. It only took one computer crash to learn a valuable lesson. I now back up all my images to two hard drives and at least one online storage site. I want to keep my digital images not only for me and my family, but also for my clients.

Family photos and travel memories! Backing up is soo important!

I backup my DNA quite often through mitosis. Epithelium regularly, bone marrow every once in a while.

Obviously the family photos are the most important. Basically all of the memories of people I've spent time with and places I've experienced.

Immediately after reading the article from Alex, I went to Amazon and added this to my Wish List! This would be fantastic to backup all of my images of my family and friends.

As a working photographer, I rely heavily on externals for backing up working files for clients. I also use them to back up family photos and tutorials that I've purchased. I would love to win one of these. You can never have too many drives.
