One of the most important aspects of our work as photographers is the storage of our photos and videos. Not only do our businesses regularly depend on our images and videos remaining safe until final delivery, many of us keep years of personal memories backed up for safe keeping. A few weeks ago, our own Alex Cooke wrote a review on one of the most dependable ways to back up what's important to you, the new My Cloud Mirror 2. As a follow up to his article, Fstoppers and WD would like make sure you have the option to keep your back ups secure by giving away three My Cloud Mirror 2 units. Check out the details below.

When it comes to backing up files, all of us place importance on different things. I personally have hundreds of thousands of wedding images I've taken for clients over the years stored on multiple hard drives. The story of these images show my progress as a photographer, and also guarantee that in a dire situation, my clients can retain access to their pictures. Outside of my business, I place the most value on the many travel pictures I've taken in over a dozen countries with my wife. These are some of my most treasured moments and memories in my life. I love to look back on them from time to time to remember the many rich life experiences we've shared together.

What are the most important items you store digitally? Fstoppers and WD would like to hear from you and give you the chance to safely store the precious aspects of your lives with a new 4TB My Cloud Mirror (Gen 2)

To be eligible to receive one of the three giveaway units, simply leave a comment below this article describing the most important items you back up. Fstoppers will randomly select three winners from the comments to receive a 4TB My Cloud Mirror (Gen 2). From my personal hobby photography over the last 6 years, to my family photos, my 200GB music library and a large backup of DVD and Bluerays, I can never have enough storage. WD makes the best drives in my long experience, only drives I would buy. Thanks for the chance to win.

Family photos, they document so many years of memories and stages that will never happen again!

No one but me will miss most of my work, but family photos taken and scanned (some nearly 100 years old) are important for me and future generations.

To have a central place where I could reliably backup everything, from clients weddings, automotive photoshoots and most importantly my family photos and portraits, that would be bliss. Good luck everyone.

The most important things for me to back up are family photos along with my video footage from my Blackmagic Pocket Cinema Camera. Shot in RAW!

Families photos and videos and clients photos are the most important items for me.

Never seen this much comments on a single fstoppers article, I store everything Image I can but prioritise my street photography. It is at its infancy.

I could imagine. It's what motivated me to create an account. :-p Likely similar for many others - or rather, it just grabbed peoples' attention.

lolll

All of my photo library. I have not lost a single picture in 18 years following the 3-2-1 rule of backup. Mirrored redundancy makes it even lees likely to loose and image.

I think with that amount of memory being offered I would look into the future and what i could accomplish with that resource. What type of project i can embark on or what photo series could i start and store in there. My immediate answer would be, i'm a soon to be father and I know my 200 ssd drive is not going to be able to handle all the photos i take of my wife and child.

happy hunting FStoppers. Thanks for the opportunity and for the tips.

Photos of family and friends are the most important for me.

I would back up all my clients pics over the past 4 years, but most importantly It'd be nice to have that extra security for my family photos. Thanks!!

The most important thing I store digitally are memories. Memories created and captured in home movies, pictures, love letters, breakup letters and emails. Just thinking about how much of our lives we can relive and remember through the ones and zero's is amazing.

I document a lot of the work my construction company does from beginning to end of a job. I also store a lot of personal projects and photos. Large files.

RAW memories. I cherish special moments and the quality they are captured in. RAW files take up a lot of space and are worth keeping even if they remain unedited, unpublished. So a 4tb storage option would definitely help me with that!

I back up the visual record of mine and my family's existence. Digital photos since 2003. And pre-digital images - scans of film or prints. Right now, it's more or less mirrored on two different drives, but I'm running out of space exponentially.

Most important would be photos of my landscapes and pets cats. none photo wise would be Music projects i'm working on.

Everything! but crucially; my RAW files, video + aerial footage, and After Effect comps.

backing up my psd files wouldn't be that bad ;)

Suerte a todos los participantes, pero yo quiero uno.

I should start making backups :O

Simple, the photos and videos of my kids. Starting from birth and on. Next would be all the images and video projects i'm asked to do for friends, family and business.

Backing up and having an archive offsite is a must because you never know what will happen at your primary location. And I think the hardest decision to make is to delete something because you've run out of storage. I guess I'm just a digital hoarder!

My most important photos are of my wife and baby boy. I believe these are irreplaceable. After that I keep the produced images of all of my shoots and after that I keep the raw images. As time as gone on I've had to start to get rid of a few of those raw images as they get big quick.

My Life in pictures!

The biggest problem with high end digital camera are the file size. After every shoot minimum 20gb of raw data is collected. It gets very difficult to backup every thing twice. My cloud mirror is the answer.

Being a Veteran and having going through Iraq I've gotten a decent dose of PTSD which coupled with some childhood issues essentially makes me compartmentalize all my memories. So very few things stick around for me unfortunately. I found a passion through photography as a way to capture moments in my life and others and have something that can and does give my memory a kick start and let me remember things. So the most important thing I backup are my life memories that I can't backup with my own brain unfortunately.

I knew before I even scrolled to the comments that my answer would echo almost every comment before me. Starting Photography in earnest around 4 years ago, I rapidly began to realise the importance of the still image, not only to me but to my wife, children and entire family. Moments spoken about can often be relived through photographs. It was not until years later after near disaster that I realised the true importance of reliable mass storage. I am sure that I am not the only one here with 100's of GB priceless photos. Being able to access them quickly and easily via a NAS/Cloud combo really is a fantastic ability.

As a fashion & commercial photographer, it's important to backup and keep my clients' photos secure... and the My Cloud Mirror 2 would be a welcomed addition to that security. Thank you for the opportunity!

I run a high end wedding and portrait studio in Western Oklahoma and in Milwaukee, WI. Having a reliable way to back up my work from Oklahoma or Wisconsin and access it at either location would be wonderful.

Definitely photos with the family are the most important

As a semi-professional photographer, its important for me to have redundant copies of my photos.

Travel Photos - Memories will fade - My files won't.

The most important things I backup is the old family pictures and after that my pictures.

WD user here. Love them. I need a back-up for my personal items. This would be perfect.

I backup photos.

The most important thing to backup is family pictures. It's simply priceless.

My nudes.

I would like to win one because...it would be free. Thanks.

I have at least 2 seperate backups of everything.

The most important images are my art projects and family photos. By family, I mean, not just the new but all the old ones, particularly the ones from my wives genealogy project on our family. Many are 125+ in age and I've spent large amounts of time and energy restoring.

The thing that gets me about losing a chunk of data is that you don't always realize the importance of what was lost until you go looking for it later. I hate the feeling of "That would be great for ........ NOOOOOOOOO!".
You have to back up now to keep your sanity later!

Without question, the most important things that I back up are our family pictures. We have 5 kids and countless memories that would devastate my wife if they were ever gone. Thanks Fstoppers!

There's three important things I use backup drives for: photos, video & educational content. Especially raw files since it isn't practical to keep them all on my laptop.

With each folder carefully labeled with date, place, and who I was with, this is less a collection of photos and more a visual timeline of my life and all the people who made it worthwhile.

This would help protect my growing database of family photos, weddings and events.

all my photos are important for me to look back how i developed my style over the years

i back up photos of my pet cat.

disclaimer: i dont own a cat.

Client headshots and family photos are the things I most need to save on my hard drives.
