How to Create Your Own Custom Brushes in Photoshop

Working with the brush tool is one of the most fundamental techniques every photographer should be well versed in when it comes to Photoshop. This great video shows you how to take your skills a step further by creating your own custom brushes for a variety of purposes.

Coming to you from Aaron Nace with Phlearn, this great video will show you how to create custom brushes when working in Photoshop. The brush tool actually has an insane amount of customization options, and depending on what you're working on, this can save you loads of time in the editing process or enable you to try out new creative ideas that push the envelope a bit. For example, as Nace shows in the video, with just a few quick adjustments of the brush settings, you can easily create a convincing snowfall effect that adds a lot of visual interest to a wintertime portrait. Creating a similar effect without using a custom brush would be both very time-consuming and rather difficult, since humans are notoriously bad at mimicking the randomness needed to make it look real. Check out the video above for the full rundown of the process.
