How to Use the Power of Symmetry in Photography

There are certain visual tools that almost any eye instantly responds to, and symmetry is by far one of the powerful you can use. If you would like to add another tool to your creative toolbox, check out this fantastic video tutorial that will show you some helpful tips and illustrative examples of how to use symmetry in your photography.

Coming to you from The School of Photography, this awesome video tutorial will show you how to take advantage of symmetry in your photography. It is common to think of symmetry as a tool for creating more abstract images that show off the geometry of a structure or landscape, and no doubt, such photos can be quite compelling. It is not just for abstract photos, however. Symmetry can be a very good way to simplify a composition to better amplify your subject without the frame becoming overly simplistic. For example, a rather boring building or outdoor structure can suddenly create a powerful composition for a wedding portrait, with leading lines that draw the eye straight to the couple. It is a great way to turn an ordinary location into something unique and compelling. Check out the video above for the full rundown.
