A Reminder Many Photographers Need to Hear

Photography can be a really stressful thing, especially if you do it for a living and have to take on the numerous roles one has to fill to run a successful business. If you are feeling a bit worn down by it all lately, check out this great video essay that has an important reminder about the craft.

Coming to you from Chris Sale, this excellent video essay shares an important reminder about photography: to have fun. It seems obvious, but it is so easy to get caught up in the stress of running a business or the toxicity of online culture and social media that you forget why you ever picked up a camera in the first place. And so, Sale does one of my favorite things: he grabs a small camera and goes for a hike with it, not taking pictures because he plans on doing anything with them but rather because he enjoys being out in nature and documenting it. After all, I don't think any of us first picked up a camera because we wanted to get social media clout or to run a six-figure business. Rather, we did it because the creative process intrigued and excited us, and that feeling is something we should never go of, which is why it is so important to take time to just enjoy photography for its own sake. Check out the video above for the full rundown from Sale.
