Light can make or break a photograph, and that's particularly true in landscape photography, where a beautiful scene can either be rendered rather blandly or resplendently depending on the light that's falling on it and how you make use of it. In addition to Danson's seven tips, I would also say it's important to exercise patience and know when the scene has the light you want/need and when it doesn't. There have been plenty of times that I've arrived to a beautiful place when the light just wasn't right for the image I wanted, and out of impatience and the desire to not leave empty-handed, I've forced a shot, only to waste time trying to post-process it to what I wanted. Instead, I've learned to move on and come back to the location when the light is better.
