Why You Should Learn to Let Go of Your Most Important Photos

It might seem a strange thing to say, but there is something to be said for being willing to let go of the photos that are most important to you. This interesting video makes a strong case for why you should consider letting go of the photos that might matter most to you.

Coming to you from aows, this great video discusses why you should be willing to get rid of photos that are important to you. This is not to say you should delete these images, but rather, this is an argument for learning to be objective about the quality of your photos, divorced from the difficulties that went into making them. We tend to be attached to photos that have interesting stories behind their creation or that took a lot of effort to capture. And while you should certainly be proud of such photos and hold them dear to you personally, you also have to be able to put yourself in the shoes of an outside viewer. For another person, the story behind the photo might be interesting or lend it context, but at the end of the day, it comes down to the quality of the image, and if the image is just average despite its extraordinary background, the viewer is unlikely to be as moved as you were. In professional contexts, the willingness to accept this and adjust your portfolio accordingly is crucial to success. Check out the video above for the full rundown.
