One of my bucket list items was to sit on the rim of an active volcano. On an island in Vanuatu called Tanna, there is a volcano where this can be possible, pending the activity. We made it to the base of the volcano late afternoon and ascended to the rim under the watch of a local guide. The lava was erupting every few minutes putting on a magical but deadly display. Many people chose to venture around the rim braving the ash cloud and the potential other life taking hazards. We stayed and listened to the guide advise. I captured this guy running across the other side of the rim, just before sunset. I hope you like it

Love the story and glad you made it out alive!
Personally, if I was looking at this photo without the story, it would be difficult to know that this splash is Lava. Obviously you know it every time you look at the photo, and I now know it from reading the story. But without any backstory, I could have almost assumed this was some bad photoshop brush tool.
I like the photo overall, I think if there was someway compositionally to cue the viewer into knowing this was lava it would easily be a 4-5 for me.
Love it! With the person in it really make me feel how large the landscape is.
Terrific capture and story. Love spattering of golden lava in the image.
