This Church, completed in 1035 and destroyed by lightening in 1955, is situated in Ani, the former capital of Armenia, and once one of Asia Minor's largest cities (circa 100,000 inhabitants) which has been abandoned since the 16th century. The site now lies in a restricted military district on the Turkish-Armenian border.
