Congratulations to the winners!
I rated "needs Work" because the lighting can be better, and the composition feels weird.
Btw, great work!
Really like the shot of the house but would say you could crop out half the grass, photoshop in some nice looking grass and a sky and maybe get rid of the power lines and the stuff to the left of the house? the lighting on the house itself is nice it's just the surrounding elements.
This is a real estate competition right?
Personally, I just rate for what I see, at any moment my votings are strategic, the comments I do are for helping, that's what a community does. When you submit photo you have to be open for beeing criticize and judge.
Just asking for clarification as photoshopping in nicer grass and power lines would be a big no no in RE photography.
I have to agree with Trevor, touching out powerlines etc in RE can results in fines for photogs and clients
Photoshopping nicer grass is usually fine since that's something that can be changed easily with some maintenance. The same applies to doing a sky replacement as long as you're not doing something weird like putting a sun or moon somewhere it doesn't belong. I agree with the power lines, though. Getting rid of those would be misrepresenting the property.
I agree that using heavy photoshop for an actual listing would be a no no, but my understanding (could be wrong) is that this contest would be photos in your portfolio. I do subscribe to the idea that you only want your very best in your portfolio. My comment was geared towards getting the image ready for your portfolio not to post in a listing.
When an agent looks at my portfolio, why would I want them to see some highly produced version of an image that doesn’t represent the actual product they’ll receive when they hire me??
I go back and forth on this myself. While it's not good to do it for a listing, you'd probably want to do it for a portfolio because you want to put your best foot forward and show the imagery that you're capable of creating.
Any limitations on that ability are ones imposed by the agent's ethical obligations, not your status as a photographer.
You definitely selected a very challenging property to submit. Obviously the land itself could use some maintenance. I gave it a 2 mainly because I think a tighter crop would have been better. There's a LOT of room above without an interesting sky to fill it and a LOT of room below without pretty land to fill it. I'm guessing that you wanted to capture the size of the property itself, but I'm not sure that it serves the photo well because the bland bits detract from a beautiful house.
