Erupting volcan el Fuego in Guatemala.
Single frame, minor editing in Lightroom. I took 5 consecutive shots of this burst of lava (it wasn't an ongoing eruption), it makes for a very nice gif, which I unfortunately can't upload here.
The story behind this image:
After quite an insane hike, to start climbing the third highest mountain of Central America (the neighboring dormant volcano Acatenango), we got to base camp at 3700m (a little over 12k ft). Here we would spend the night, before continuing our climb to reach the summit. At Basecamp we were awarded with views of the close by and super active Fuego volcano - which unfortunately claimed many lives in the summer of 2018, due to increased activity. Needless to say, I stayed up all night in the cold to catch a few stunning eruptions, and when I say stunning I mean literally stunning. Such an eruption goes through your soul. A deep and low rumbling that just hits you in a way only mother nature can. Inarguably one of the most insane things I've ever witnessed and managed to capture on my camera.
