So, this may not be the most unique shot in the world, but it was a new direction for me, particularly in terms of processing. I tend to favor punchier colors and contrast, and this has neither of those. As far as uniqueness goes, I guess that's more of an in-joke for me. This dog, who we call the Doot, is about as far from romantic as it gets. He spends all day sitting by the window, barking at every person that walks by. He was a crabby old man even as a puppy. I used a single SB800 speed light and a white paper backdrop for this shot.

I think the shallow depth of field is working against this image. With a solid background like this you could get a lot more in focus, make the image feel more cohesive.
