The full moon at dawn setting over Waldo Lake in the Oregon Cascades. At 5:30am it evokes peace, serenity, solitude and wonder. One gains perspective on their place in the world, our insignificance and the wonders that still abound if one is willing to make the effort to seek them out. Lake surface is at ~5,200ft. with a surface area of approx. 10 sq. miles. Water so pure / clear you can see the bottom to roughly 110’. Snowed in from late October through early June. Miserable with mosquitoes from June through mid-August. Realistically one can only access for 7-8 weeks each year unless you want to snow mobile or x-country ski seven miles from the nearest highway. I have very sweet memories from annual camping trips as a kid and subsequently with my wife / kids.
