I shot this image in studio on a black background with a 3 light setup (the purple light you see behind Keagan was in the actual shot). The rest of the elements are composited/painted in using Photoshop. Keagan and I talked about this concept from a few weeks before the shot so we knew where to go as far as posing and what emotions we wanted the image to evoke.
