Closeup of New Zealand glowworms in pitch black darkness of Waipu Cave. I had to stand almost waist deep in water and position the tripod close to the cave ceiling to take this shot. Exposed for around 1 minute.
The background of this phenomenon is as creepy as it's beautiful-glowworms produce saliva threads hanging from the cave ceiling to catch their prey (tiny insects attracted by the blue light) - similar to spiders but more sophisticated :)
