Closeup of New Zealand glowworms in pitch black darkness of Waipu Cave. I had to stand almost waist deep in water and position the tripod close to the cave ceiling to take this shot. Exposed for around 1 minute.
The background of this phenomenon is as creepy as it's beautiful-glowworms produce saliva threads hanging from the cave ceiling to catch their prey (tiny insects attracted by the blue light) - similar to spiders but more sophisticated :)

Amazing
Thanks a lot, Ash! It was a truly unique experience. Wish I could go back soon :)
This is the kind of images that one expects from fantasy computer games, not from real life... Stunning, surreal.
Thx, Tim. True, I thought exactly the same after seeing the glowworms for the first time. Nature is awesome and beautiful
