This is Matt, the guitarist for the band "No, This is Patrick!" It was taken in my 10'x10' home studio with a single flash to camera left. The goal was to give it a Rembrandt painting look (which is in stark contrast to their normal pop-punk band photos) by adding a lot of noise to the original sharp image.
