Lake MacDonald, West Glacier National Park.

When I first saw this scene the boats were tethered equally spaced on each side the dock. They must have been almost new because they were all a rich red color. The bold color against the sky and the water and the wood of the dock was just gorgeous. I was going to get a bold composition in red, white, and blue!

As I set up my tripod, two boat rental attendants came out and started to drag them up on the dock and chain them together for the night. Rather than bail on the shot I decided to wait and see how they looked all lined up on the dock instead of the water.
In the end I liked the new symmetry better than before, and it allowed to me get much closer the water's edge and accentuate the boats more. In the end I did not like the color version nearly as much as I expected and decided a black and white was the way to go.
