I took this photo on my recent trip from New York to the Faroe Islands. I stayed in this small, remote cabin in the hope of capturing the beautiful scenery. It's located in Akraberg on the southern tip of the island of Suðuroy. Since the lighthouse keeper moved away in 1988, the town has had a full-time population of 0. On the final night of my stay, I peeked outside and was struck by dancing lights in the sky. It was my first encounter with the aurora borealis and being alone in the middle of nowhere was one of the most unique experiences of my life.
I turned on all of the lights in the cabin to make it glow and set up my camera on a tripod to shoot long exposures. I used a Sony a7RV with a 16-35mm f/2.8 GM and shot at 16mm, 15 sec., f/2.8, ISO 1250. I developed the photo in Lightroom by emphasizing the colors in the aurora and the glow of the cabin. Everything was done all in one exposure and the photo is processed much less than one might expect.
The aurora is beautiful but the horizon isn't straight
