Arizona thunderstorms middle September from Mingus Mountain near Jerome, AZ. Mingus is just over 7,800 feet in elevation and to the East (left of frame) is the Verde Valley. The East side of Mingus Mountain, and about 200 yards behind where am standing is a popular launching point for hang gliding over this valley. On this particular day was setting up to shoot time lapse of these thunderstorm pockets as the sun setting peeking through the valley on South edge of the mountain. This was one of the first few frames of the sequence. Within 5 minutes later the storm pocket in middle of frame was on top of me so had to get off side the cliff and back to campsite about 100 feet to my right. Torrential downpour with pea sized hail for about an hour and lightning strikes for several hours as these storm cells sat on the West side of Mingus into the night. Alas, no time lapse but this shot was pretty cool. Shot on D500 with a 20mil lens.
