Maloja light trails
This shot was taken at Maloja Pass, a high mountain pass in the Swiss Alps linking the Engadine with the Val Bregaglia. It's a bit dangerous to shoot there, especially in winter, since there is a steep drop and no official trail to get to this location. I carefully positioned my tripod at the edge of the hill and shot from sunset until it was completely dark using a wireless remote control (so that I could safely stand back from the edge).
Since the mountain pass is rather remote, there is usually not much traffic and it also takes a few minutes for a car or motorbike to climb or descend the pass. I therefore had to shoot a lot of long exposures for around two hours that evening (at -10 degrees Celsius) to get all the light trails I needed for this image.
In post, I combined a sunset shot with a series of light trail shots from cars climbing and descending the pass.
Shot with Nikon Z7 and Nikon Z 14-30 f/S lens at f/8 (series of images at different exposure times and ISO values).
