Springtime in Hong Kong is always a much anticipated time of the year for local photographers. It's the time of year when the weather turns humid, and the start of the foggy season or 'sea of clouds' begins. When this happens you sometimes get the low blanket of cloud engulfing the city, and as photographers it's such and amazing event to photograph.
This was my second year photographing this, and for me it usually starts by watching the weather forecast and keeping an eye on the weather apps. If there's an opportunity I will head up extra early to Victoria Peak at around 12am to get a spot to shoot from, as it can get extremely packed with photographers, sometimes two rows deep with people bringing ladders and portable chairs! I will shoot rite through to sunrise.
This photo was taken just before sunrise, and for this shot I wanted to capture a more expansive scene, but if the fog/cloud is thick enough you can also capture more intimate shots of the taller buildings piercing through the fog, which make for quiet surreal photo's.
What I haven't managed to capture though are the evening shots, when all the main colourful building lights are turned on and illuminate the clouds from below. For this you have to be on Victoria Peak virtually the whole day to book your spot....next time!
